Crane fatality on Bangalore Metro

WRITTEN BY

A man died on Wednesday while working on one of the Metro construction sites in Bangalore India, after a crane boom came down on him.

The pick & carry crane was moving a slurry tank when the boom failed and struck Amarjeet Singh, 24, a labourer employed by JMC, a contractor working for the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation

Initial reports suggest that the crane was in a bad state of repair with significant corrosion around the boom. The police filed preliminary charges against the sites safety officer and the crane operator.

Vertikal Comment

The Bangalore Metro project, along with those in other major cities in India have been plagued with crane incidents. Bangalore seems to have particular problems with pick & carry ‘tractor cranes’ overturning.

It really needs someone to focus on crane safety on these sites.
