Saved by the boom

WRITTEN BY

A crane driver had a miraculous escape yesterday in West Hollywood, California after his pick & carry crane overturned into the lower levels of a new building.

The man was operating his Broderson carry deck crane on the edge of the construction with full boom extended when either the ground under an outrigger gave way or he suffered an overload.

Amazingly the boom landed on the ground inside the excavation and prevented the crane from falling the six metres or more to the ground. He was trapped in his cab and was taken to hospital after being rescued with a serious leg injury.

This is second time this week that a crane operator has had such a lucky escape on Monday Yoshikazu Kume was rescued from a similar fate in Hokkaido, Northern Japan See crane hangs over the edge
