Crane hangs on the edge

A mobile crane overturned yesterday on the top of Toppu Dam in Hokkaido, Northern Japan and hung over the edge of the dam with the operator trapped inside the upside down cab.

The operator, Yoshikazu Kume, 55, was rescued after three hours and was apparently unharmed.

The crane a city type Rough Terrain was lifting materials up onto the dam using a fully extended boom in order to clear the lower slope of the dam base, which is currently under construction, when it went over the edge. Thankfully the crane’s outriggers hung up on the guardrail preventing it dropping the 80 metres into the river below.
