Liebherr to expand use of carbon fibre technology

WRITTEN BY

Liebherr is to start tests on expanding the use of carbon fibre technology (CFK) in other products.

The material offers high strength and low weight – up to three times lighter and offering a higher tensile strength for the same steel cross section. When used as pendant straps, this allows the crane to self-erect longer boom combinations allowing greater heights and working radii. In addition, Liebherr says the crane offers improved capacities, particularly at long radii. Another advantage is easier handling during crane assembly.

Liebherr is using carbon fibre technology (CFK) – in the from of pendent straps on its HS 895 HD cycle crawler and as an option on its LR 1300 (pictured above)
