Tower crane over

WRITTEN BY

A self-erecting tower crane overturned yesterday near Stuttgart, Germany, when the ground gave way under one of its supports.

The crane was lifting concrete on a new apartment block on Monday morning when the ground gave way under one of the outrigger jacks in the town of Bonlanden, Filderstadt to the south of Stuttgart. Thankfully no one was injured although the jib struck an occupied apartment where a couple were still in bed.

The operator was controlling the crane remotely and said that the crane began to go and then crashed over before he could do anything.
